Local woman dies in head-on vehicle accident

A head-on collision, occurring on State Highway 78 between Bailey and Bonham, took the life of 69-year old Rae “Jill” Wheeler Turrentine, formerly of Cooper, and serious injuries to 69-year old George Carruth of Bailey.

The Texas Department of Public Safety was dispatched to the scene at 1:15 p.m. Monday to which they were investigating what caused Turrentine to cross into oncoming lane of traffic. They arrived to one vehicle on fire in which the emergency personnel quickly extinguished. Reports state Turrentine was not wearing her seatbelt and was pronounced dead by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Alan Hale.

Carruth was transported to Texas Medical Center in Bonham.

Turrentine was a member of the Town and Country Garden Club and the local Lions Club of Cooper.

Funeral services are 10 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Bonham, Texas.   Mr. Ricky Robert and Mr. Kevin Davis will preside over the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Benjamin Turrentine, Ryan Turrentine, Lane Fox, Sean Floyd, Ken Fox, Nathan Roberts and Dalton Cagle.

Burial will follow during the afternoon at 2 p.m. at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce, Texas.  Family visitation will be held on Friday evening, 6-8 p.m., July 10.
