A multi-alarm fire at the former nursing home facility located on the corner of East Dallas Avenue and Southeast Eighth Street in Cooper is still under investigation by City of Cooper Fire Marshal Michael Copeland, according to volunteer fire fighters.

The blaze was reported at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10 and a fire truck was on the scene within three minutes of dispatch. Reports state smoke and fire was within the south lobby area.

“Crews made an interior attack and extinguished the fire,” said Cooper Volunteer Assistant Fire Chief Tanner Crutcher. “We conducted primary and secondary searches, which was lengthy due to the size and amount of rooms in the building.”

Responding were departments from Enloe and Klondike, as well as Cooper. The structure is currently unoccupied without electricity and is owned by Dan Brownlee of Plano, who purchased the property from the individual who obtained it during a tax sale. No work is currently being done to the building, which has been disrepair and underutilized for over ten years.
