City Election Candidate Forum will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Delta County Civic Center gym.

The Delta County Republican Club is inviting candidates to participate in a Candidates’ Forum with respect to the upcoming City of Cooper Elections.  The public is also invited to the forum that will be held at Delta County Civic Center on March 9, 2017, and will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
According to the Club the purpose of this forum is to give all candidates for Mayor and/or City Council an opportunity to speak to citizens and share their views on topics of interest and issues affecting the community. There are five candidates in the mayoral race and four (two incumbents) in the city council race to be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017.
The Club is hoping for a large crowd of voters in the gym of the Civic Center on that Thursday, March 9 with the use of a new sound system. Each candidate will have time to speak, individually, and be prepared to answer questions from the audience as well using an index card system.  This is a non-partisan event provided as a public service.
Once again this is an opportunity to educate voters on the background of the candidates and the issues of the community. A reminder: voters must live inside the city limits of Cooper and must be registered 30 days prior to the election on May 6, 2017.

The drawing to decide the position on the 2017 Election Ballot for Mayor of the City of Cooper was held Monday, Feb. 27 afternoon. First on the ballot will be Joseph Christopher Flanery followed by Amanda L’Esperance, Carl Reel, Darren Braddy, and Galen Kimbrell. Mayor Scotty Stegall was present for the selection but has opted not to run for mayor.
Two City of Cooper Council positions are up in the next election with ballot drawing being held at the Council Chambers.
City Secretary Emily House shuffled the names and selected as a neutral party, Cooper Review Editor Cindy Roller, to do the drawing. Listed from first to last will be: Allen Foster, incumbent Donna Thomason, Bobby Rhein and incumbent E.J. Cates.
