The Promise film

Herald-Banner movie critic Alice Reese enjoyed "The Promise," starring Christian Bale and Charlotte Le Bon, but says it might better have focused on the history of the bitter conflict between Turks and Armenians during World War I, and left the romance aside.  She says "Their Finest," a comedy-drama about a woman who finds herself making British propaganda films during World War II, might be the best movie of the year so far, although it's an "art house" film, not in wide release.
