TEA releases accountability ratings

By Scott Harvey

– The Texas Education Agency released its 2010 accountability ratings Friday afternoon and, by all accounts, the region fared very well.

In Hunt County, five districts achieved the highest performance level of exemplary; Bland, Caddo Mills, Celeste, Lone Oak, and Wolfe City.

Last year, Quinlan ISD was the only county school to list an academically unacceptable rating. This year, they improved to acceptable.

Other area school districts earning exemplary status this year; Sulphur Bluff, Rains, Dodd City, Ector, Savoy, Sam Rayburn, Chisum, Prairiland, Canton, Edgewood, Van, Forney, Mabank and Scurry-Rosser.

The two main regions that cover the North central and Northeast Texas areas, Regions 8 and 10, listed all districts at the acceptable level or higher, with the exception three charter schools; two in Dallas and one in Kaufman County (Alpha Charter School, Honors Academy, Ranch Academy).

To put that into perspective, the two regions combined have over 120 public schools and 30 charter schools.

Find out where you school ranked at the TEA website, http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/perfreport/account/.

The accountability ratings are primarily based on student scores on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) exams, dropout rates and completion rates.
