Council awards Alexander with more job security

Steven Alexander

GREENVILLE - The Greenville City Council has narrowly passed an amended ordinance making it harder to terminate the contract of its city manager.

It will now take five members of the council, rather than four, to end Steven Alexander’s contract. The move was said to be in recognition of Alexander’s “superior job performance. ”

The decision came following an executive session that reportedly ended just before midnight Tuesday. Some questions were raised Wednesday on the timing of the vote and whether the council violated the open meetings act.

Opposing the amended ordinance were council members Jeff Dailey and Dan Perkins.
