Boots & BBQ raises thousands for CISD programs

COMMERCE - Over 130 guests attended the annual Commerce Schools Educational Enrichment Foundation Boots & BBQ fundraiser Saturday, April 21 at Commerce High School.

The event, which serves as the main fundraising activity for the Foundation, raised over $14,000 to benefit programs in math, science, fine arts and technology at CISD.

Student performances were the highlight of the program as fifth graders performed a line dance to "Should of been a Cowboy" in reference to their fourth grade trip to the State Capital, which is funded by the Foundation. Seventh graders who participated in the Camp Write On shared essays written about their beliefs during the writing camp at Commerce Middle School. A huge Texas-shaped flag drew attention to the 10 grants which were funded this year by the CSEE Foundation.

Since 2005, the Foundation has donated over $200,000 to benefit Commerce Schools.
