SULPHUR SPRINGS - More than 600 new employees at five Northeast Texas companies will receive training as part of a $740,000 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission.

The state agency recently awarded the money to Paris Junior College, who will administer the training to Aeorstar International, Flowserve Coprporation, Morningstar Foods and Ocean Spray Cranberries of Sulphur Springs, as well as Red River Compression Services in Clarksville.

Texas Workforce Commission Chairman Andres Alcantar tells the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram, “Our commitment is to work in partnership with our top community colleges that are so important to what we do. I've been very insistent about one thing and that is that our community colleges are central to [the Workforce Commission] strategy for workforce development.”

The job training dollars are part of Texas’ Skills Development Fund, which promotes collaboration among businesses, community and technical colleges, local workforce development Boards and economic development partners.

A total of $48 million in Skills Development Funds will be awarded during the two-year fiscal period of September 1, 2011 – August 31, 2013.
