Discussions on Postal Service Future Thursday in Delta County

Cindy Roller

DELTA COUNTY - Meetings in Lake Creek, Ben Franklin and Enloe will allow the opportunity to hear and exchange ideas about how to continue the service in a cost effective manner.

The meetings come after the recent issuance of a non-binding survey where those in low population areas were given four options, the first being to keep their local office open but with fewer retail hours.

The United States Postal Service wants to know how to meet the needs of citizens at a level that matches the amount of business that happens “at the counter.”  Topics at Thursday’s meetings may include, but are not limited to, exploring times for service and available buildings for P.O. boxes.

USPS estimates this new strategy, implemented nationwide over a two-year, multi-phased approach, would save half a billion dollars annually.

Meeting times:

Lake Creek: Thursday, Oct. 18 at noon – Post Office

Ben Franklin: Thursday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. – Post Office

Enloe: Thursday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. – Post Office
