A Salute: In Memory of Memorial Day

Despite the overcast skies in Delta County volunteers, including the local 4-H participants and Girl Scout troop, gathered to show their respect for this upcoming military holiday.

“This holiday was established to remember those who have fallen in service to Our Country,” said Red Henderson Post 483 Commander Gary Thompson at the program at Oaklawn Cemetery in Cooper Saturday morning in honor of Memorial Day. “We not only honor those who have gone before us but those currently serving, as well.”

Many placed flags on the graves of family members and others walked the rows of the cemetery learning about the community’s heritage and those who defended the red, white and blue for today’s freedom. It was a humbling experience for all ages.
