Delta County Emergency Management recently sponsored an annual SKYWARN Training conducted by the Fort Worth National Weather Service.  This year the program delivered new information as Mark Fox from the NWS taught an advance level class on how storms form and how to identify storm growth in intensity and movement.

Fox stressed the importance of storm spotters displaying radar pictures seen on the internet or on television are only accurate up to a certain point.  By the time the radar sweep reaches this area it is at an elevation of about 12,000 feet.  The storms often form thousands of feet below that, hence the importance of trained spotters on the ground.

The class was well attended by twenty one civilians, Civil Air Patrol and Volunteer Fire Fighters.
