Delta County passed the Jail Standards for the fifth year in a row. Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith credited Jail Administrator Sue Ann Johnson with the success.

It was accepted into the minutes during a recent Commissioners Court session. During which Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith reported 14 in jail and was pleased with the passing of jail standards. He credited Delta County Jail Administrator Sue Ann Johnson with performing the work necessary to complete this complicated task. He noted some of the surrounding jails did not receive a passing grade.
“This is our fifth year to pass,” said Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith. “The Jail [while built in 1994] is in good shape.” Judge Murray agreed to how challenging the jail standards process is and the heavy restrictions.

Texas Commission on Jail Standards

December 12, 2017

Dear Sheriff Smith,

The Texas Commission on Jail Standards wishes to acknowledge the excellent work of the Delta County Sheriff’s Office with a Certificate of Compliance for the Delta County Jail. The most recent inspection of your facility on December 8, 2017 by Texas Commission on Jail Standards Inspector Fred St. Amant has demonstrated that your facility is in compliance with Texas Minimum Jail Standards.

The Certificate of Compliance demonstrates your outstanding leadership and the diligent work of your staff in complying with minimum jail standards. In addition, this achievement is a direct result of your office’s commitment to excellence and is an example of dedication and professionalism in maintaining a safe, secure, and sanitary facility.

Providing the essential budgetary support for jail operations is also imperative to achieving compliance, so let me also congratulate the Delta County Commissioners’ Court for their vital support of jail operations.

The citizens of Delta County should be proud of your combined efforts, as is the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.

Respectfully,

Brandon S. Wood
