July 27 Evening Newscast

  • In Commerce, the boil water advisory that had been in effect since Sunday has been lifted. The city announced this afternoon that lab tests confirmed the safety of Commerce municipal water. Water usage restrictions remain in place in Commerce. There’s no timeline for the lifting of the usage restrictions, which apply to outdoor water usage. Commerce city manager Howdy Lisenbee told KETR yesterday he expects the restrictions to remain in place through the coming weekend. Lisenbee said water levels in the city’s storage systems have been recovering steadily but slowly. Levels first dropped in early July as a result of a leak in a major line. Commerce has a reliable water supply, but the city’s aging treatment plant has been struggling to produce enough water to meet local demand.
  • Fire danger across the region remains very high due to dry, hot, and occasionally breezy conditions in Northeast Texas. In Lamar County Tuesday evening, firefighters contained a blaze west of Roxton that burned 10 acres. Other small fires have popped up around the region.
  • A heat advisory remains in effect for Northeast Texas through tomorrow evening. Tonight, mostly clear skies with lows in the upper 70s. Thursday, very much like today, with sunshine and highs just above 100. Friday might provide some relative relief, with highs in the upper 90s, a mix of sun and clouds and a 20 to 30 percent chance for rain Friday evening and Friday night.
