Paris ISD superintendent Jones to retire at end of June

The district plans to name Assistant Superintendent Althea Dixon as Jones' successor.

  • In Lamar County, Paris ISD superintendent Paul Jones has announced his plans to retire at the end of June. The Paris News reports Jones has been a superintendent for 21 years and has spent 31 years in education. A statement from Paris ISD says the district intends to name Assistant Superintendent Althea Dixon as the new Superintendent of Schools for Paris ISD.
  • A Sulphur Springs man died Wednesday as a result of a two-vehicle accident on State Highway 11, east of Sulphur Springs. 44-year-old Michael Huggins was driving a motorcycle westbound on Highway 11 when he struck an SUV head-on. Huggins was pronounced dead on the scene. Officials say Huggins was not wearing a helmet. The driver of the SUV received minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The crash is under investigation.
