A&M-Commerce alum earns honor for social work

By Brent Lyday

Commerce – Deanna Mullins, medical social worker at Goodall Hospital and social work alumna of Texas A&M University-Commerce, has been named the Medical Social Worker of the Year by the Maine Chapter of the Society of Social Work.

"I truly feel the education that I obtained through the social work department at A&M-Commerce says a lot about what the bachelor's and master's social work program brings to one's practice," Mullins said.

She was presented her award at the Maine Hospital Association's 2010 Summer Forum at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine on June 24. Mullins has lived in Maine and worked at Goodall Hospital for the past four years.

"It is very challenging to describe, in one document, the value that Deanna brings to our organization on a daily basis," said the closing remark in Goodall Hospital's nomination on Mullins' behalf. "I can only say that without her we would not have the depth of clinical expertise and support that she brings to this important role."
