– Budget talks for the upcoming fiscal year are planned during Tuesday's Greenville School Board meeting.
The Greenville Herald-Banner reports the district is facing a nearly $200,000 budget shortfall.
Personnel reductions, along with the consolidation of Travis Elementary and the Sixth Grade Center, has allowed for approximately $1 million in cuts to date. It is unclear if the district will look to increase the tax rate through a rollback election, but could ask voters to approve an increase of up to 13 cents.
A public hearing on the budget and tax rate is set for July 27.
Greenville isn't the only school district facing a budget shortfall for the 2010-2011 school year. The Commerce ISD plans to conduct a rollback election in August. The 13 cent rate hike will cover their nearly $700,000 projected budget shortfall.
Superintendent Blake Cooper has previously stated that more than half of all Texas school district are expected to operate at a budget deficit this coming year.
