Dry conditions bring fire

By AP News/Kevin Jefferies

Texas – All of Texas is suffering from dry conditions.

More than a dozen wildfires yesterday scorched almost ten-thousand parched acres across Texas, forcing the evacuation of 12 homes near Comanche.

At least six blazes that began Friday and Saturday continued burning yesterday. They had consumed close to 45-hundred acres in Hamilton, San Saba, Irion, Clay and Palo Pinto counties.

Weaver blamed the increase in wildfires partly on the dryness of the past month. The causes of the fires included a controlled burn, a welding torch, a downed power line and lightning.

Most area counties and cities are still under burn bans as Northeast Texas continues to experience a heavy drought. Commerce is also in Phase 2 of drought contingency plans, which has mandatory restrictions for outdoor watering.
