Weather claims one Commerce life

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – A search for an elderly man missing from Country Home Estates in Commerce ended in tragedy yesterday. The body of 85 year old J.W. Morrison was found by emergency search crews in an area near the assisted-living home.

A press release from the Commerce Police Department said Morrison was last seen in the south wing of the building around 1:30 yesterday morning. With temperatures in the mid 20's, all emergency services were called in to help assist in the search, including Commerce's K-9 unit, Rocco, who tracked Morrison for a while until losing scent in the inclement weather. A DPS helicopter also provided an aerial search.

Morrison's body was found in a nearby area. He was pronounced dead at 7:55 yesterday morning by Justice of the Peace Jennifer Reeves.
