ISD's appeal property appraisals

By Kevin Jefferies

Hunt County – Four area school districts will be appealing property values assessed by the Texas Comptroller's Office. Boles, Celeste, Greenville, Cumby, and Commerce ISD's have all been affected by discrepancies between local and state assessed property values. All but Commerce will be appealing those values.

Officials in Greenville said the state values say they have $114 million more in taxable value than local appraisals project.

Commerce will not be appealing because they were allowed to keep local values last year, and that carries over to this year as well. The district will be hit hard next year if the inequities are not addressed.

As of last Friday, both Boles and Celeste had been awarded local values. Greenville and Cumby will be looking for a decision in the coming weeks.
