Former Sulphur Springs teacher to begin serving time today

By Kevin Jefferies

Sulphur Springs – A former Sulphur Springs High School math teacher has begun serving time under terms of her sentence for having an improper sexual relationship with a student in 2004, according to the Sulphur Springs News Telegram. Shelly Kasandra Shaw will begin serving 30 days in jail today then face 10 years of probation.

A relationship began between Shaw and a 17 year old female student in July 2004. The girl's parents found correspondence between the two suggesting the nature of the relationship later that school year, and contacted police. When questioned, the student admitted Shaw had made sexual contact with her on numerous occasions.
