GEUS wants to build new plant

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – Greenville electric utility officials have proposed a plan for a new plant. Officials with GEUS, the local electric utility system, have announced plans to build a new, $35 million electric generating plant inside the city limits. GEUS General Manager David McCalla said the plant would primarily be used to provide electricity during times of peak local demand, and at a lower cost than GEUS is now paying. When the new plant comes on line in late 2010, it will raise GEUS' total available generation from the current 133 MW to 158 MW.
