Campbell mans' murder trial set for May

By Brad Kellar

Campbell – A murder trial for a Campbell man has been postponed.

James Ray Brown Jr. had been tentatively scheduled to go to trial next Monday. But during a hearing Tuesday both sides announced they were not yet ready to proceed to trial, so a new trial date was set for May 18.

Brown has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his wife, Avis Baker Brown in Oct., 2008. He is being held in the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Brown reportedly told investigators he had heard someone breaking into the home, then obtained and fired a .410 shotgun, mistaking Avis Brown for an intruder. However, the couple's 8-year-old son told investigators the shooting took place following an argument between Brown and his wife.
