Greenville considers new options for eight liners

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – The City of Greenville considers new options for eight liners.

City Attorney Brent A. Money asked the Council Tuesday for direction in drafting a comprehensive ordinance regulating the devices.

In October, the Council voted to prohibit the opening of eight-liner arcades inside the city limits for 12 months. There were exceptions under the ban. The machines would be permitted as fund-raising mechanisms for certain non-profit groups such as the Elks Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. The ordinance would also not affect those machines which were already in operation, provided they were operated legally.

Mayor Tom Oliver instructed Money and Assistant City Manager John Adel to examine existing ordinances in other cities, and return with a proposal based on what they had learned.
