Wolfe City ISD employee senteced to prison

By Brad Kellar

Wolfe City – A Wolfe City ISD official is sentenced to prison for embezzlement.

Former business manager Teresa Rene Conley was sentenced Thursday to six months in prison, while her sister, Tonya Deann Hooten was placed on three years of probation. Both were convicted of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from the district in August, 2008.

Both Conley and Hooten were also ordered to repay the federal education funds they swindled.

During the alleged scheme, Conley produced five fictitious invoices, falsely representing that Hooten had performed various services for the district. The invoices were used to allow checks to be distributed to Hooten, in a total amount of approximately $27,900.
