National Night Out set for this evening

By Scott Harvey

– Due to inclement weather, the Commerce Police Department is moving tonight's National Night Out festivities to the Commerce Middle School.

Activities will take place from 6-8 p.m. Food and games will be provided.

The University Police Department at A&M-Commerce is still planning to hold festivities at Gee Lake from 6-8 p.m. The event will be moved inside the Morris Recreation Center if need be.

In Greenville, at least 15 neighborhoods had signed up to host activities. Several other area cities are also taking part in the event.

National Night Out is held to encourage people across the country to get to know each other, while meeting with law enforcement and learning ways to prevent crime, drug abuse and violence in their communities.
