Sweeney earns top honor among superintendents

By Brad Kellar

Quinlan – Hunt County has a distinguished superintendent of schools.

Dr. Graham Sweeney, superintendent of the Boles ISD, has been chosen as the 2010 Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Rural Education Association. Sweeney has spent 35 years in education including 24 years with the district.

As superintendent he organized the Star Texas Initiative, which allowed transfer students to further their education experience, while minimizing racial discrimination across school boundaries. As a result Boles ISD, the poorest school district in the state, was able to quadruple its enrollment and add many new facilities.

Sweeney will be recognized June 18 during at a ceremony in Fort Worth.
