Commissioners scale back retirement package

McKinney – Collin County Judge Keith Self says county workers should get less government matching funds for their pensions in a time when average citizens do not have similar benefits.

Commissioners voted Tuesday to scale back the county's employee retirement package, but not to the extent that Self wanted.

The vote was to reduce the county's match from $2.50 to $2 for every employee dollar contributed into the Texas County and District Retirement System. That match is on par with Dallas and Tarrant counties.

Self had pushed to reduce to $1.50 the county's match into the state-created plan.

The decision came despite opposition from several Collin County prosecutors. But commissioners said that they couldn't maintain the 250 percent match because it's a drain on the county's budget.
