Negligent homicide suspect gets probation

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – Probation is granted to a Greenville woman following a guilty plea in connection to the death of an infant.

30-year-old Christina Rene Rodriguez entered an open plea of guilty in June to criminally negligent homicide. An open plea means no potential sentence in the case had been offered or arranged.

A judge Thursday initially sentenced Rodriguez to the maximum sentence of two years in a state jail, and then probated the sentence for five years.

Rodriguez was said to be negligent in causing the death of a two-month old girl in October 2008.

Investigators say she was holding the child while falling asleep on a water bed after having consumed more than the prescribed dose of prescription medication.
