Commerce – A proposal by the Lone Star Conference would give the A&M-Commerce Lions football team a game at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

The proposed Lone Star Conference Football Festival would feature three games involving six teams, at least five from the LSC, to be played Sept. 17, 2011.

According to A&M-Commerce President Dan Jones, who discussed the proposal during Monday's University Community Update, the festival would replace the University's Harvey Martin Classic, which has taken place the last three years at the Cotton Bowl.

The only expense to each participating team would be for travel. If revenues exceed expenses, profit would be divided among participating institutions.

"Right now it sounds like a wonderful opportunity and it's something which helps establish and raise awareness of what we do in the Metroplex, which is still our primary market," said Jones.

The Lone Star Conference is to provide additional details on the proposed event during the next Council of President's meeting, at which time a vote on the item will take place.
