Commerce – A family of four is without a home after a Tuesday evening fire destroys a Commerce residence. No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at 1508 Bonham St. at around 7 p.m. Fire Chief Brian McNevin says the house was approximately 50 percent involved upon arrival.
But with the help the department's compressed air foam system, crews were able quickly extinguish what was left of the fire and save the home's bedrooms.
"The foam works 1,000 times better than water, and that's what did it," McNevin said. "It just coats it like pouring shaving cream all over it and it just knocks it right down."
The mother and her three teenage children who occupy the house were receiving aid from the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
