ERCOT no longer in emergency situation

By Scott Harvey

Associated Press – Northeast Texans can breathe a sigh of relief, as the Electric Reliability Council of Texas is not planning any rolling blackouts again Thursday, as it did Wednesday.

The company had warned of taking action again due to high demand, but according to Oncor Spokesman Stan McKey, electricity usage did not reach the critical stage.

Customers are still being advised to turn down their thermostats.

A majority of customers yesterday had to undergo scheduled outages at increments of 15 minutes, some more than once. McKey says approximately 75 customers were without power for longer durations due to other issues. He says the call center was overwhelmed yesterday with customers experiencing both the planned outages and blackouts due to other circumstances.

Freezing conditions are expected through tomorrow, but electricity usage could be less as temperatures slowly rise.
