Suspect sought in campus sexual assault

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Information is sought into a sexual assault that reportedly occurred on the A&M-Commerce campus last week.

A female student reported the crime to University officials on Monday, indicating she was sexually assaulted by an unknown male at around 10:30 p.m. on March 1. The assault allegedly occurred at the West Halls on campus.

According to the police report, the assailant is a six foot tall male, and was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt at the time of the attack.

The University Police Department encourages students to take extra precautions while walking through campus at night, to travel in pairs and report any suspicious behavior.

"I think our students, especially in our residence halls, kind of develop a community they learn what is out of place and what is not, and they know this better than the police would," says Lt. Jason Bone, crime information officer with University Police. "So if you see someone that is in the area of where you live that you're not used to seeing and if it catches your attention it should probably catch our attention too."

Anyone with information related to the attack, is urged to contact the UPD at 903-886-5868.
