Sulphur Springs Murder-Suicide Suspect Dies

Stephen Roy Wyatt
Sulphur Springs Police Dept.

The suspect in an apparent murder-suicide in Sulphur Springs has died. The body of Stephen Roy Wyatt, 60, was sent to the medical examiner’s office in Dallas on Tuesday afternoon, according to Sulphur Springs Chief of Police Jay Sanders.

Sanders said Wyatt was removed from life support around 10 a.m. Monday.  His death is the result of what police suspect was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On Sunday, Wyatt’s wife, Laura Wyatt, 39, was found dead in their home, apparently killed by a gunshot wound. Stephen Roy Wyatt was also found nearby, unconscious after an apparent gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Officers had arrived at the couple’s home in the 900 block of Rockdale Road as a response to reports of loud arguing and gunfire, officials said.

Wyatt had been arrested in September and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, according to Sulphur Springs-based KSST-FM. Wyatt had reportedly struck his wife with a gun and threatened her with it. Wyatt told police he was suicidal and was taken in police custody to a local hospital. He was out of jail on bond on Sunday.
