Local MMA Fighters Bring Home the Belts

ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS - Amateur mixed martial arts fighters for Greenville-based Chop Shop MMA, made history Saturday night becoming the first team to sweep with three wins at the Paradise Fighting Championships.

22-year-old Chris Gutierrez of Greenville got his opponent to tap out in the second round with an armbar technique and took home the Bantamweight Championship belt. 21-year-old Stephen Banaszak, a resident of Bells, won the Featherweight Championship in the second round by way of armbar, getting his opponent to tap out. And Tim Roman, a 27-year old from Greenville, won the Welterweight Championship by unanimous decision.

Chop Shop is a mixed martial arts gym geared towards families and offers classes for all ages.  Chop Shop MMA is located in downtown Greenville and is owned and operated by Rob Stucker.
