COMMERCE - Texas A&M University-Commerce is hosting the 2012 Texas Clarinet Colloquium on Feb. 17 and 18.

Submitted to KETR by Sydni Walker, Student writer in Marketing Communications at A&M-Commerce:

The TCC will feature recitals by local, regional, national and international artists. The opening recital will start at 7 p.m. on Feb. 17 in Finney Concert Hall located in the music building.

This statewide conference is a free event for clarinetists and teachers. All students and teachers will have the opportunity to perform. Dr. Mitchell Estrin from the University of Florida will conduct the 2012 TCC Clarinet Choir, which will feature more than 100 clarinetists and their teachers onstage.

“The Texas Clarinet Colloquium is an amazing opportunity for our students to be able to meet some of the country’s finest musicians and educators,” said Dr. Mary Druhan, associate professor of clarinet at A&M-Commerce. “The community will be brought together by free concerts which are open to the public as well as through classes and lectures designed for clarinetists of all ages. University students will build a sense of community through interaction with students from around Commerce, and the United States.”

The conference will host an exhibit hall on Saturday, Feb. 18 where students, their families and teachers will be able to purchase instruments, music and accessories.  Featured artists include Michael Lowenstern, Howard Klug, Paula Corley, Michael Webster and Mitchell Estrin. All members of the community are invited to attend.
