Josephine, Lowry Crossing face alcohol-sales question

The eastern Collin County communities of Josephine and Lowry Crossing will decide whether to legalize alcohol sales in the May 11 election. The ongoing question of alcohol sales marks the highest-profile question for voters in eastern Collin County in the spring elections.

A measure that would legalize all alcohol sales, including those of mixed drinks, in Lowry Crossing is on the ballot in that community.

Josephine voters will decide whether to legalize sales of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only.

In Lavon, voters will decide on two sales-tax measures, with funds from the proposed sales taxes dedicated to street repairs and municipal facilities.

Voters throughout the county will have the opportunity to select for new trustees for Collin Community College. Adrain Rodriguez, Buddy Minett and Jim Orr are running for Place 4 trustee. Richard R. Anderson and Andy Hardin are facing off for Place 9 trustee. Two trustee candidates are running unopposed - Stacy Anne Arias (Place 5) and Mac Hendricks (Place 6).

Most of the municipal races in this year's Collin County elections involve cities in the U.S. Hwy. 75 corridor. Fairview, Frisco, McKinney, Melissa, Murphy and Plano are having municipal elections. The Allen, Lovejoy and Plano school districts are also electing candidates. There are no county-level offices on the May 11 ballot.
