Danny Barnes continues to pioneer new sounds

Danny Barnes Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/danny.barnes)

Danny Barnes has made a name for himself as an unclassifiable artist whose skills on the banjo are unrivaled.

He founded Austin's Bad Livers in the 1990's, a band which many credit with paving the way for the current Americana and crossover music craze (Ie. The Lumineers, Mumford and Sons, etc.), and his solo career spans the past 14 years.

Danny calls in from a current tour in Texas to talk about his latest experimental album "shri 108," about the forming of Bad Livers 15 years ago, his latest "barnyard electronics" endeavor, his love for browsing through vinyl in stores, and much more.

Barnes plays a show in Denton on Thursday night, Feb. 20 at Dan's Silverleaf with Billy Bright.

Listen to Notably Texan for the music of Texas in all its form, plus in-depth talks with Texas artists, weekdays from Noon-3 on KETR.

Born in Dallas, Texas, Matt moved to the Sulphur Springs area in 1990 and settled in Commerce shortly thereafter. Having dreamed of working in radio since childhood, he began working at KETR while taking Radio-Television courses at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1993. Matt has transitioned from a part-time worker and pupil of KETR, to the station’s Chief Announcer/Producer and supervisor of student broadcasters. A familiar voice of 88-9 KETR, Matt has hosted such shows as The Late Nite Lion, and can currently be heard as host of Notably Texan.
