Construction is expected to start soon on a new, green power plant in Greenville. Greenville Energy LLC, a Lufkin-based company, is seeking to build a 67 mega-watt electric generating biomass plant. The Greenville City Council voted in November 2010 to approve a 25-year franchise agreement between the City of Greenville, Greenville Energy LLC, and Southern Renewable Energy LP. The plant will be constructed at Reservoir No. 5 in North Greenville.
