Blazes could be seen for miles Tuesday afternoon as Cooper, Pecan Gap, Enloe, Klondike, Delta County and Roxton Fire Departments along with Delta County Sheriffs Department officials were called on the scene of a house fire located at the corner of County Road 3270 near Highway 38 in Ben Franklin.
According to family members, the house and two acres were bought for $750 in 1941 and it was nearing complete construction when O.R. (Shorty) Freeman bought it. The house was currently being rented.
Delta County Fire Chief Jack Kiley stated it was a total loss and the cause of the fire was undetermined but likely began in the kitchen.
