BONHAM - The Bonham ISD is scheduled Tuesday to officially name their high school gym after Coach Leonard A. Gerner.
Gerner's long career in education included a stint as principal and coach of four different sports.
He served in Ector for 10 years, and then in Bonham for 27 years from 1960 to 1987. He served two terms on the Bonham ISD's Education Improvement Council. Gerner earned a Master of Education degree in 1952 from East Texas State Teacher's College.
Last August, the Bonham ISD Board of Trustees voted to name the gym in his honor. Tuesday's ceremony is scheduled in between the varsity girls and boys basketball games at approximately 7:15 p.m. at the High School. A reception will be held in the BHS cafeteria following the dedication ceremony.
