Man charged with aggravated assault of peace officer

SULPHUR SPRINGS - A Sulphur Springs man is in custody after reportedly firing several live rounds at officers during a Monday evening standoff.

52-year-old Terry Yankee would eventually come out of the residence and surrender, but not before the SWAT team was called out and tear gas fired into his home.

No one was injured after Yankee reportedly fired at officers. He’s been charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer.

Police were dispatched to the residence in the 500 block of South Locust Street shortly after 7 p.m. Monday regarding a possible suicidal man.
