New Amtrak line would bring more options for local riders

DALLAS - Amtrak and Texas transportation officials are studying starting passenger rail service from Dallas-Fort Worth to Shreveport, La, which would bring more stops locally.

In a joint statement, Amtrak and the Texas Department of Transportation said they've agreed on the scope of a feasibility study of adding the service.

Amtrak already runs its San Antonio-to-Chicago Texas Eagle service on the Union Pacific route from Fort Worth to Marshall with stops in Longview, Mineola and Dallas.

The proposal would add Amtrak stops at the Centre Port/DFW Airport station of the Trinity River Express, as well as stops in Mesquite, Forney, Terrell and Wills Point.
