COOPER - Two Cooper residents, one 20 and the other 80, are the believed victims of suicide after authorities responded to separate calls in the past week.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. Monday morning, Delta County Deputies were dispatched to an apartment located at 1003 NW 5th in reference to a suicide by hanging. Upon arrival deputies entered and observed the complainant, Enrique Edwards, sitting on the floor next to former Cooper ISD graduate Francisco Miguel Edwards.

Emergency Medical Services advised deputies the subject appeared to have been deceased for a little while and the Justice of the Peace was contacted. The complainant reported the subject had been depressed lately, but was not currently taking any medications or seeing any medical physician.

Sheriff’s Department also spent last Thursday morning with a similar case. At 6:09 a.m. a call came into dispatch with a caller at West Cooper Street residence reporting Tommy Eiland had apparently shot himself.

The 80-year old white male was said to have been suffering from repercussions of cancer.

Deputies observed a black small frame revolver lying near the right shoulder of the body, deducting the subject had died of a self inflicted gun wound to the head.

Autopsies have been ordered in both cases as standard procedure in deaths of this matter. Delta County officials say foul play has been ruled out in both cases.
