FANNIN COUNTY - Skeletal remains found last December in Fannin County have been identified by medical examiners as those of Gary Don Stewart.

The 43-year-old was last seen by his girlfriend in March 2010 on FM 68. The remains were located just north of there when a landowner found skull and bone fragments on his property, which sits along CR 3335.

Stewart had left on foot after being told that law enforcement had been called to investigate an altercation between him and his girlfriend.

"At this point, with the reports we have received there is no indication of foul play and with the immediate investigation and ongoing investigation there has been no indication of foul play," Chief Deputy James Woods tells KXII-TV.

The medical examiner cannot determine a cause of death.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures on that Saturday night and the following Sunday in 2010 were between 26 and 28 degrees.
