Slideshow: A&M-Commerce landscape changing by the day

COMMERCE - It’s been a feverish couple of months for construction workers since the spring semester let out at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Demolition of five dormitories and a central utility plant on the southwest corner of campus is nearly complete, and the foundation of a new, 542 bed unit valued at $26 million is taking shape. It’s scheduled for completion in summer 2013. The same process was undertaken two years ago and created Pride Rock, the 250 bed facility which houses freshmen students.

The temporarily vacant plot of land should come as a unique site for most, particularly university alumni who continue to frequent campus. The demolitions add to a flourish of renovations within the past five years.

Also sure to catch your attention is the new amphitheater, being created out of a large section of the bowl area just north of the Business Administration Building.

The newest extension of the university Walking Mall is also coming along. It’ll run between the AG/IT Building and the site of the old Music Building.

Additionally, entrance to campus and various sections of campus will be marked with new signage.

Students returning to campus this fall are sure to notice the changes, as well as the incoming freshmen and transfer students who haven’t been back since their spring campus tour.
