School is already underway in several Northeast Texas communities, while thousands more students will head back to class over the next several days.
KETR reviewed published 2026-27 calendars and back-to-school information from public school districts across the region. Here are the confirmed first days of school, grouped by date.

The calendars illustrate just how widely the start of the school year varies across Northeast Texas. Community ISD students returned Aug. 3, while Sulphur Springs ISD students won't begin classes until Aug. 20, a difference of more than two weeks between neighboring parts of the region.
Families should check directly with their school district for campus schedules, transportation information, registration requirements and any last-minute calendar changes.
