Cooper ISD Board Appoints Anita Moody

COOPER - Moody fills the vacancy left by Trustee Jack Vaughn, who recently resigned with seven months of his term remaining. On Thursday, board member Jack Chambliss  also announced he was stepping down.

Vaughn's daughter, Jacie, was hired as math teacher for Cooper Junior High after the board adjourned from executive session Monday. Texas Education Agency guidelines prohibit public officials from voting for the appointment of an individual with whom they are closely related.

Meanwhile, another vacancy has emerged which board members will address at their August meeting.

Chambliss, who was not present at Monday's meeting, said he was leaving for personal reasons. A resignation letter reads, "I truly hope these and future members continue to strive for the best education they can provide for the children of this school district."

The Cooper ISD Board Monday also addressed a couple of facility items.

Superintendent Hohenberger said the demolition of the old elementary building was deemed necessary by the state fire marshal due to the abundant hazards. She also told board members it would take roughly $75,000 to repair roof deterioration to the current Administration Building.
