PARIS - The five former students are the first slate of Distinguished Graduate Award winners, the highest and most prestigious award the district can bestow on its graduates.

They include former Paris ISD students Raymond Berry (Class of 1950), Trenton Doyle Hancock (Class of 1992), Deon Minor (Class of 1991), Gene “Bebes” Stallings (Class of 1953), and Admiral James O. Richardson (Class of 1894/Posthumous).

This week's event will be the first presentation of the Distinguished Graduate Award by Paris ISD in its 128 year history. This award honors graduates who are nationally or internationally recognized for their career accomplishments, distinguishing themselves as leaders and as role models.

Friday’s ceremony includes a presentation at 1:30 p.m. in the Paris High School library. The former students will be presented to the PHS student body during the Homecoming pep rally at 2:30 p.m., and then  they will be introduced during the football pregame ceremonies beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Former students, staff, and friends of Paris ISD are encouraged to attend.

To nominate a Distinguished Alumni, fill out a nomination form located at www.parisisd.neton the Community page and submit no later than May 15 of each year.

Nominations for future awards may be made by any person, whether a friend, relative, or simply someone familiar with an outstanding person who graduated from Gibbons High School or Paris High School.  For a nominee to be considered, he or she should have graduated at least 10 years ago.

Community members wishing to attend the 1:30 p.m. presentation should call 903-737-7473 ext. 2328 by September 12 to make reservations.
