Officials take custody of two Commerce children

Two children, aged 2 and 7, have been removed for their home in Commerce.

A Commerce Police Department release said that on Sept. 28, officers responded to a 911 call from the 200 block of Hickory Street. Once there, officers found a 7-year-old and a 2-year-old, but no adults. The older child told police that the mother was at work.

The children were taken to the police station. Child Protective Services later authorized their removal from the custody of their parent, a 25-year-old woman whose name has not been released. She was arrested on Sept. 30 on a charge of Abandonment or Endangerment a Child with Intent to Return, a felony. Police said that she will be taken from Commerce to the Hunt County Jail, where she is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge.
