Martin Ray Malone, 61, of Wills Point has been charged with one count of murder in connection with the shooting death of a woman in south Hunt County early Friday morning.

The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as Jayme Malone Lopez, 54, also of Wills Point.

“It is believed that the suspect is the brother of the victim.” Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said.

Lopez was reported to have crashed her vehicle at around 6:25 a.m. Friday in the 100 block of County Road 2475. She told a 911 operator she had been shot. First responders quickly arrived at the scene, but Lopez died.

The Hunt County and Van Zandt County Sheriff’s offices are investigating.

Malone is being held in the Hunt County Detention Center in lieu of $500,000 bond.
